Same old thinking, same old outcomes?

Same old thinking, same old outcomes?

Creativity and the need to move beyond the lazy, mediocre, traditional, expected, comfortable and safe applies almost everywhere now.

We need curious minds, creative thinking and challenging questions based on deeper insights, novel re-framing, radical changes in how we approach and resolve problems, new forms of collaboration, better ways that we can engage with each other and, yes, an element of bravery, almost everywhere.

We need all these when thinking about organisational constructs, business futures, value definition, leadership, contribution, responsibility, co-creation and in thinking about how we change the systems that run almost everything important to society – even what society means.

But, as any good strategic thinker or entrepreneur knows, it’s one thing being a deep thinking, curiously minded and creatively driven problem solver. It’s another thing entirely to build the insights, arguments, justifications and compelling reasons to believe that enable others to listen, understand, buy into and adopt creative ideas – particularly when these move into the centre of complex existing systems and deep routed ways of doing things – where resistance to change and the implications of change are most pronounced.

To overcome these understandable barriers, creative thinkers and doers of all creeds and colours, in every walk of life, need to work much much harder than most to build their case in order to be taken seriously let alone have their ideas adopted. This takes serious commitment to the cause, much angst, self-criticism, soul searching deep and wide evaluation and real determination to tackle challenges and closed minds head on.

I know from personal experience that all this is often a very uncomfortable and exhausting place to be but that, ultimately, it is worth the effort.

I hope that creative thinkers and justified, prudent, creative thinking moves closer to the centre of all organisations and systems – individually and in combination. We need them/us and it more than ever.
